| Anony-post |
[Sep. 1st, 2010|01:01 am] |
So, I thought it would be a good idea to have a post where you can put anonymous comments, and it's screened (ie no one else will see them unless I approve them, which I won't unless for some reason you want me too), forward dated so it's always at the top of my journal. This can function as a way to get hold of me, etc, or as a home for anony-muses unknown.
Is it a good idea? Well, I'll find out. And you're welcome to give your opinion. ;) |

| Laptop - Can we fix it? |
[Mar. 5th, 2009|11:59 am] |
Flatmate's laptop went on the fritz the other night. Something about having the printer plugged in, turning it off and pulling the plug, then it not starting up next time round.
[Edit: - Now with more details of just how borked it is! It starts booting up from the BIOS normally, says there's been a serious error, offers you Safe Mode / no Safe Mode options etc, whichever you select it displays the windows splash/loading screen then bluescreens too quickly to read any of the text on it. He has a Windows install cd (XP Home? Maybe?), but it doesn't seem to recognise that there is a Windows install on there, or want to do a repair install. It has the restore option thing, eg just taking you to a C:/> and I'm while I'm not entirely sure what you're supposed to do from there, I'd rather run TestDisk than 'FixMBR', and - the DIR command doesn't work. No file listing. Can't remember the error I got. Bugger, bugger, bugger... /Edit]
Yeah, so - I've spent all of 10 minutes with it unfortunately, but flatmate would really just like to take it somewhere and fix it, *now*!
So, any recommendations of stores, fixit-people etc?
If he hasn't spirited it off before this evening, I'll sit down with it, start with TestDisk and well, move on from there... |

| Book meme |

Grab the nearest book. * Open the book to page 56. * Find the fifth sentence. * Post the text of the next two to five sentences in your journal along with these instructions. * Don't dig for your favorite book, the cool book, or the intellectual one: pick the CLOSEST
He wisely resolved to be particularly careful that no sign of admiration should now escape him, nothing that could elevate her with the hope of influencing his felicity; sensible that if such an idea had been suggested, his behaviour during the last day must have material weight in confirming or crushing it. Steady to his purpose, he scarcely spoke ten words to her through the whole of Saturday, and though they were at one time left by themselves for half-an-hour, he adhered most conscientiously to his book, and would not even look at her.
This? All credit and fault must go to mkcs. She keeps sneaking works of great lit'ratchur to me in amongst the YA fantasy. I rather think I'm being improved on... |

| Hoh-lee-dae! |
[Sep. 26th, 2008|09:37 am] |
My holiday is great. It's just the sleeping & catching up with email kind of holiday, but that's going well. I'm staying with the previously-mentioned friends NW of Auckland, and on Wednesday, Ngakau, who is 5, baked me a banana cake for my birthday. Sweeet! And I might be getting cheesecake when I get back home on Saturday. ;)
And just to reassure, there'll be another cake for the actual party on the 4th!
It's lame, but just catching up on the backlog of email and website projects etc is making me feel good. |

| Mental health week... |
[Sep. 18th, 2008|07:30 pm] |
Realised I need a mental health week. I think they call them 'vacations' in some places? Possibly holidays? Turns out - next week works!
Now I'm just trying to figure out er, where I can go with my limited resources and short notice.
I'm contemplating to Motueka, and stay with my Mum, or possibly stay with friends north-west of Auckland? (But, like a fish, I wish not to stink after 3 days, and I don't really know anyone else up there...)
Well, I've got til Monday to arrange transport to SOMEWHERE, because on Monday, I'm gonna hit the road, and somewhere is where I'm gonna end up! |

| It's mah birthday, I'll shimmy if'ah want too... |
[Sep. 11th, 2008|04:09 pm] |
Party! My place, combined birthday party as half the flat is having birthdays (9 months post-happy season, huh?).
Saturday 4th October, afternoon onwards.
So that's for me, Darcy, Mark, Petey (and Regan being considered an honourary flatmate).
What are we talking? We're talking at 5 birfday cakes. Movies in one room, two player smack-downs in another (we have two DDR mats, or there's kicking it oldschool two player games) from afternoon onwards, metamorphising in the evening into lounge party, and dancing room.
There will be theme, to-be-announced later. ;D |

| There will be cake... |
[Sep. 3rd, 2008|02:47 pm] |
So lovely peoples, if you're reading this, my birthday is at the endish of this month.
Considering a party at my house, possibly a combined party (ah, christmas babies) on possibly one of the 19th, 20th, 26th or 27th, or 3rd, 4th?
Any dates that would have the least clashes?
Edit: See, this is why I ask! Thanks guys. :) Could consider 3rd or 4th? Sounds like Fridays are free. |

| Cake |
[Sep. 2nd, 2008|03:09 pm] |
Since I tend to use LJ as a social bulletin board, I thought I'd let peep's know that I'm going out with Mark Williams.
Not sure exactly what that means. But apparently I get cake?
---
And, mostly unrelated, I added an anony-post to my journal. It's where you can do the post anonymously/screened thing.
Chur chur, bros. |

Hugs!!!
For anyone who wants one. (And who wouldn't?)
It's sometimes feeling like winter, often far hotter than spring, turning, onwards I guess, but I'm feeling like there'll be a lot to look forward too this year. |

| Mmmmm.... Mmmhmmm... |

I'm going to go see Fur Patrol this Friday! http://undertheradar.co.nz/utr/tickets/ID/86/Fur_Patrol_Hidden_Agenda_Tour.utr $15 presales, Bodega, 8pm.
They were good good good last time they were in town, and surprisingly cheap/under-advertised ($12 door sales).
In other news... Last night I had tasty, tasty Stirfry, 3 types of dessert, and Shaolin Soccer with hoodooyoudoo & flatmate last night. How can the week keep up with such awesome?
My flatmate has turned into the mad, mad baker - like, he's going through a few kg of flour a week. o_O I wake up in the morning, and lo - baked goods! And dinner in the evening/when I get home. It's like a super-power - ingredients go in, tasty food comes out. Cue theme music for Tasty Food Man, rhyming foood & gooood...
I slept too much in the weekend before I realised that I wasn't actually tired, I was just yawning abnormally (and yawning DOES make me tired), and once it got near-continuous, I realised I was having a weird side-effect to a medication I'm taking. D'oh.
Finally, Neil Patrick Harris. I didn't realise til after seeing Dr Horrible's Sing Along Blog & part of Harold & Kumar go to Whitecastle, but it seems like he's working up to becoming a near Norris-like pop-cultural icon. Proof of this? He got asked to be the Shoe Fairy on Sesame St. The shoe fairy. How awesome is that? Weirdly, it's unable to be embedded. Click, you know you want too... |

| The Last Frontier.... |
[Jul. 17th, 2008|11:18 pm] |
The best thing about coming across an post in the Last Psychiatrist, was getting sidetracked by lateral thinking, and finding out that 'Frontier Psychiatrist' by The Avalanches has one of the awesome-ist vids ever. Of the week, anyway.

| Winter, huh? |
[Jul. 16th, 2008|04:34 pm] |
Nicer days are good, but still.
I mopped a litre of water off the bathroom ceiling last night. o_o
Crying baby sumo is my happy thought for the day, well, ok so I don't know what it is.
My room is slightly warmer now I've barricaded the one little window with blankets, but it does make it pitch-black at night. Seeing discussions about dawn simulator alarm clocks - waaay overpriced for my budget - I went with what I could afford. A power switch timer ($6.50 each) attached to a lamp. No brightening/dimmer function, but it seems to help. Tho, I accidentally set it an hour earlier than I had to get up on Monday, so if anyone else wants one, maybe the digital version would be a better investment. |

I'm getting the rather disconcerting feeling that I merely *dreamed* I got a handy new feature in the program I use for tracking my timesheets. It would have made doing my timesheets a lot easier this month.
The upgrade definately happened. But possibly not that feature. Because it's not there now. And I can't see anything about it. But, but... I really, distinctly remember using it! At least twice.
And I even checked the database the program uses to store the raw data - it doesn't store that data.
Ow, my head. Reality/Dreaming-Reality - Stop screwing with me. Please?
[Edit: Never mind, feature does exist, it just disappears at the end of a session. Ug. Was having flashbacks to highschool where the dream/reality thing did happen a few times. :P ] |
